Never Change, You Old Gray Lady, Never Change

In this time of oppressive stay-at-home orders, the red state/blue state divide, Governor Cuomo looking everywhere but the mirror regarding Wuhan virus deaths in nursing homes, rampant unemployment and NO BASEBALL, maybe we, the people, should be grateful for one constant-the New York Times and its consistent, unrelenting and never-in-doubt attacks against President Trump.

Reid Epstein authored an article titled “Trump Sows Doubt on Voting. It Keeps Some People Up at Night” which appeared in this past Sunday’s edition (May 24th).  Epstein recounts how numerous folks have this overwhelming fear that President Trump is intending to interfere with the upcoming presidential election, or, even worse, will refuse to leave the White House if he loses. According to Epstein, several people, including Rosa Brooks, a Georgetown University law professor who organized a group of concerned voters, Marc Elias, a Democratic party lawyer and Bob Baur, a lawyer for the Biden campaign, are gaming out scenarios in which the president delays or otherwise disrupts the November election.

Epstein describes how Joe Biden has also expressed his concern on more than one occasion that the president will interfere with or delay the election.

Lastly, the article points out that a non-partisan group, the National Task Force on Election Crises, has been organized to ensure that the election proceeds without mishap. The group has looked at several possible events that could disrupt the election, such as natural disasters, hacked voting machines- and a president who refuses to agree to a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the election.

What exactly is the motivation for these doomsday scenarios that are keeping these pearl clutching Democrats and angry Never Trumpers awake at night? Early in the article, Epstein tells his readers: “Outraged by Mr. Trump and fearful that he might try to disrupt the campaign before, during or after Election Day, they are engaged in a process that began in the realm of science fiction but has nudged closer to reality as Mr. Trump and his administration abandon longstanding political norms.”

Of course, Epstein does not elaborate for his readers what those “longstanding political norms” might be.

Baur, the Biden campaign lawyer, further explains: “Since 2016, Donald Trump has shown that he is always ready to sacrifice our basic democratic norms for his personal and political interests…[w]e assume he may well resort to any kind of trick, ploy or scheme he can in order to hold onto his presidency.”

There you have it. In other words, Orangeman is bad and he may do bad things.

One thing that jumps out to me from this article is that Epstein and the Democratic Party operatives he quotes really don’t think much of President Trump’s dirty politics skills. After all, they believe the president might try to close polls in cities under the guise of the Wu flu lockdown, limit or prohibit voting by mail or have Attorney General Barr indict Uncle Joe a month before the election.

Come on, that’s mere child’s play in the spectrum of political dirty tricks.

What if a law firm retained by the Trump reelection campaign hired a foreigner to dig up dirt on Biden in the Ukraine, put a report together and give that report to the FBI so the FBI starts an intelligence investigation of the Biden campaign colluding with the Ukrainian government to win the election? And the report makes it way to friendly reporters at Fox News? The fact that the report was unsubstantiated and not viewed as credible by many in the intelligence community would not be made public until the damage was done. That would be devious.

What if FBI agents made multiple “mistakes” (some might say “lied”) on FISA warrant applications that permitted the FBI to electronically surveil members of the Biden campaign? Now, that would be a neat trick for the Trump administration to pull off.

What if former senior Trump administration intelligence chiefs become consultants at Fox News and made appearances on the network, repeatedly telling viewers that the Biden campaign broke the law and they expected indictments against Biden campaign officials and possibly Biden himself any day now? Of course, the fact that they testified under oath before Congress that there was no evidence that the Biden campaign colluded with the Ukrainian government wouldn’t be made public for years, if ever.

How about the media? What if President Trump was able to convince the media to raise the prospect of impeaching Biden once in office, before he receives the Democratic nomination?

            See here.

            And here too.

If the president was really cunning, maybe he could get one of his billionaire friends to start a PAC during President Biden’s first year in office for the sole purpose of convincing Congress to impeach the new president.

Nah, Reid, I think you, the good professor and the two Democratic Party lawyers should up your game and start thinking outside the box if you really want to protect the country from the evil you people know is personified in President Trump. I know the events I described are seemingly incredible and highly unlikely to happen but, gee, you never know.

            Amirite, Reid?
