About Me

Pete Byer

Attorney, Author and Freelance Writer

After over 30 years practicing law, I am trying out something new. Well, not exactly. I’ve been writing EXECUTIVE TARGET for years on the weekends, at night, etc. I was a prosecutor, securities industry in-house attorney and in private practice in New York and New Jersey. And I am desperately, desperately, trying to retire from it all.

So, wish me well…

Executive Target is a political satire set in the very near future. The “action” takes place all over the country but people from New Jersey will recognize many of the locations mentioned in the book. Several of the fictional characters will remind them of New Jersey folks who became famous (or infamous?) in recent years.

The book came out in May 2019. One Amazon reviewer says the book obviously leans to one side; that may be true, but I tried to make fun of both sides of the American political spectrum. As a matter of fact, I told Kate Delaney, who interviewed me for her radio show, that I didn’t think that people on the extreme ends of the political spectrum would enjoy the book but that both moderate Republicans/conservatives and Democrats/liberals would find the book entertaining.

Let’s hope so!

Inside the Mind

I started EXECUTIVE TARGET a few years ago. I was working at a small law firm in Rockland (NY) County. Two of the partners were friends I had known for years and worked with in the past. They both had heart attacks within two years of each other. One in the office. One was two years older than me, one two years younger.  The firm closed and I had a lot of free time. Hence, EXECUTIVE TARGET took on a life of its own.

You will see from the website (what do you think of the name?) that I am doing some freelance writing. I write web content for some law firms (primarily one) but am looking to expand the business. I am available for any person or company who thinks I can help them out (I would love to ghostwrite a book).

Take a look at the blog. I will try to post a few articles each month commenting on current political and cultural events or trends. I don’t pretend to have many answers for what is going on in the world. But, unlike a lot of politicians and political commentators, at least I know that. If you find it interesting, please let me know. If there is something you would like me to comment on, let me know.
