Remember when Hillary Clinton’s handlers “corralled” the press who were covering her unsuccessful presidential campaign during a 2015 Fourth of July parade in New Hampshire? Her aides used a rope to keep the reporters a safe distance from Hillary as she marched. The spectacle received a fair amount of coverage at the time. See here, here and here.
That incident comes to mind after seeing reports of the recent press conference with former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris. On August 13th the Democratic candidates made their first joint appearance since Harris was named as the presumptive vice president nominee. After making a plea for a three-month national mask mandate to combat the Wuhan virus, the former vice president took ONE question before the reporters in attendance were ushered out of the room. Check out the video of the end of the presser (it is at the end of the article). You can hear a female staffer herding the reporters out of the room: “Ok, guys, let’s go… come on guys, let’s go, let’s go….”
The mainstream media routinely exhibit their liberal bias. That bias is only intensified by the media’s lack of respect, contempt or outright hatred of the current White House occupant. But what explains Clinton’s and Biden’s distrust of the media despite the media’s consistent exhibition of favoritism towards Democrats?
In Clinton’s case, there is no question but that Hillary (and Bill) had a hate/hate relationship with the media. Sure, they cheered for Hillary in 2016 because of who her opponent was (but not in the 2008 primary, because of who her opponent was). But they didn’t like her and she didn’t like them. I’m sure who ever told those two aides to get the rope out thought he/she was doing a good thing protecting Hillary from the always prying media.
As for Biden’s press anthropophobia, the common perception among many on the right is that Biden’s campaign staff is self-quarantining him from the media because of his proclivity for verbal mishaps (with good reason). It’s not so much that they don’t trust the media; it’s their candidate they don’t trust. How long will the mainstream media permit this?
On July 19th President Trump appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. Notwithstanding his network, Wallace is a tough questioner of any politician, including President Trump. According to Wallace, the Biden campaign has refused repeated requests to have Biden appear on his show. Indeed, Wallace was “astounded” that no one from the Biden campaign appeared on any of the Sunday morning news shows on the eve of the virtual Democratic National Convention. Even CNN thinks Biden has to talk to the press: “We keep pressing the Biden campaign. There needs to be more questions from reporters. We know that.” (see the video referenced in the second paragraph above).
The last linked article theorizes that the Biden campaign is keeping him under wraps while relying President Trump’s supposed unpopularity and perceived missteps to bolster Biden’s poll ratings. But wasn’t Hillary ahead of candidate Trump at this time in 2016? Doesn’t that seem a little risky for the Democrats? Could history be repeating itself?
And after having up to 29 primary candidates the Dems pick the one who they don’t trust in front of a microphone or camera?
This is one time Trump supporters and the media may agree: Biden has to get in front of cameras, get asked tough questions by unbiased journalists (yes, yes, I know I’m reaching here) and let the voters see him and hear his answers.
I suspect the Trump campaign will keep the pressure on Biden to start making appearances, having press conferences, etc. The press will also be haranguing the Biden campaign to produce the former vice president. Will he show up or will we have to wait for the presidential debate?
I think the debate will be where we see what catches dafish.
When I was a young lawyer, I remember one of my first Motion Days. I thought I stood in pretty good stead on the merits but lacked a certain confidence so kept trying to interject details. It wasn’t long before the judge (wish I could remember his name) said to me something to the effect of, “Son, when you’re winning, you gotta learn to just sit down and keep quiet”.
Your attitude toward the press takes several shifts Mr. Cleareyes.
Another thought, do you care? Is anything Biden or Trump could say or do that would change your mind?
Thanks for commenting on the post.
If you’re analogizing the post to the judge’s admonition to you when you were a still wet behind the ears attorney…. well, thank you if you perceive me as “winning!”
After three and one-half years of “Russia, Russia, Russia,” then “Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine,” and now “mailbox, mailbox, mailbox,” I don’t take anything the Dems say about the president seriously. And it’s almost sad to see how Biden has aged in the past four/five years. I don’t think he has original thoughts. I think he now says what he is told to say. It’s hard to see how he will compete with the president if they do debate.
As for the president, like many, I voted for him because I wouldn’t vote for Hillary for dogcatcher. As MAC details in his comments above, the president has delivered on so many campaign promises that I now wholeheartedly support him and look forward to another term.
This is the Republican platform which, at least for me, reads, I pledge allegiance to Donald Trump and whatever he says or does, no questions please. Is that what the conservatives of this country have come to? Are you good with this?
WHEREAS, The RNC, had the Platform Committee been able to convene in 2020, would have undoubtedly unanimously agreed to reassert the Party’s strong support for President Donald Trump and his Administration;
WHEREAS, The media has outrageously misrepresented the implications of the RNC not adopting a new platform in 2020 and continues to engage in misleading advocacy for the failed policies of the Obama-Biden Administration, rather than providing the public with unbiased reporting of facts; and
WHEREAS, The RNC enthusiastically supports President Trump and continues to reject the policy positions of the Obama-Biden Administration, as well as those espoused by the Democratic National Committee today; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda;
RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention will adjourn without adopting a new platform until the 2024 Republican National Convention;
RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention calls on the media to engage in accurate and unbiased reporting, especially as it relates to the strong support of the RNC for President Trump and his Administration; and
RESOLVED, That any motion to amend the 2016 Platform or to adopt a new platform, including any motion to suspend the procedures that will allow doing so, will be ruled out of order
I do not speak for anyone but myself; to answer your question, yes, I am fine with what the GOP issued instead of a 2020 platform. As I said earlier, I agree completely with what MAC says about President Trump’s first term accomplishments. All those wins in the face of a rigged Russian collusion investigation, the pathetic impeachment orchestrated by Pelosi, Schiff, ad nauseam, and the never ending negativity of the media, academia and Hollywood against the president and his followers.
And what of the Democrats? They finished their virtual convention with no condemnation of the violence and property destruction ongoing in several cities led by Democrats. Forget about condemnation; not even a reference to the rioting and looting? Compare President Trump’s vision of making America great again to the call from the left to defund the police. How’s that going to work out for them come November 3rd? I suspect not well. Jeez, Rich, President Trump may even win the popular vote this time!
I shan’t change your mind and I’ll give you you got conservative Justices. That’s McConnell’s “accomplishment”. Tax cuts for those who needed them least whilst immediately and significantly increasing the national debt is a dubious achievement. Of course, debt only matters when democrats are in office. Obama inherited a crashing economy yet ultimately was paying it down. Trump inherited a booming economy and raised the debt $2 trillion before Covid. The wall is not done and is a scam (see Bannon indictment). Denying climate change is patently ridiculous as is insulting our allies and embracing authoritarians. The swamp is being addressed? Have you not noted how many now former Trump associates are indicted or convicted criminal. Have you noted how many former Trump associates have written, shall we say less than flattering, books and articles about him. How many Republicans of note are lining up to state they would not vote for him. Kinda unique that not one former president has endorsed him. Are you aware that his University was an admitted fraud as was his foundation? As far as business goes multiple bankruptcies, literally thousands of lawsuits, frauds and scams. He’s a dishonorable narcissist who has one concern and one concern only, himself. Some day you’ll see but your vote will already have been cast.
On other matters, I just heard Bob McGovern’s Amanda is having identical twin girls just like her mom. 🍻
I am just so happy that I never have to hear the words “President Hillary Clinton.” Yes, I know he has had questionable business dealings. How about the Clintons? Whence has the Clinton Foundation gone now that she is no longer a viable candidate for office?
For every character flaw you describe, there are plenty who attest to his business acumen, diligence and intelligence. Did you not see the Greatest Show on Earth last week, a/k/a the Republican convention? Are all the blacks who now support him just “Uncle Toms” to your fellow Democrats? I suspect I know the answer. The Wall is being built, the economy was flourishing (especially for minorities) before the Wuhan virus exploded, the US embassy was moved to Jerusalem, criminal justice reform was enacted, the US pulled out of the Paris climate accord and the Iranian nuclear deal, the US-Mexico-Canada trade deal replaced NAFTA, ISIS was defeated and its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdad killed, the Iranian killer of American soldiers, Qassem Soleimani, was killed. President Trump just keeps winning.
I voted for President Trump so he could lead a Republican administration, not buy me beers at Tierneys. That’s what I have you for!
Biden already has a population of Democrats who only vote for Democrats. I think he is losing voters on a daily basis from the #Walk Away movement, Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk and others who address issues on a daily basis. Biden is minimizing his risks by keeping his mouth shut. Those who are undecided, and not fans of President Trump’s personality, need to evaluate the risks to the country having an incompetent President. Young adults need to conduct research, especially if they plan on having a family. Trump is like an NFL Quarterback who is not popular with his offensive line (SWAMP) because of how effective he is at his job. They are letting the defenders (media) in to sack him and he keeps throwing Touch Downs as he gets hit. The Democratic Party is reckless with spending, reckless with minorities, with international trade, with environment, with unions. Trump was elected because of the policies he promised he would address. He has achieved many of these goals, tax cuts, Supreme Court Justices, Wall, Paris Climate, ISIS, Trade, Military, moving Israel Embassy to Jerusalem. This all happening as the Democrats attempted to remove him from office and continue in this manner at a cost to U.S. taxpayers. The swamp was being addressed. I am hoping the future politicians will include business executives who are patriots, like President Trump. Last thing we need are career politicians who attended law school like Nadler, Schumer or Joe Biden:)
Thanks to my father who stated to me on the topic of this web site, this blog is really awesome.
See Rich McMahon’s comments above. Ditto. Pete, try not to pigeon hole. I know it’s tough. Your man (is it Trump?) is a psychotic, and, no, I’m not a medical doctor. You don’t need to be. Yes, I still like you, after all, I wanted to hire you back in ’88 but for one of those ivy league anti-working-class elitist a-hole Generals Counsel, but, your man (Trump) is a racist. But what do I know, my late parents and grandfather were Holocaust survivors. Not long ago, back in a far away galaxy, your favorite news paper (not), the NY Times, carried an article about Orange Sphincter’s father, Fred (Orange Sphincter is a phrase that comes from another one of your favorite’s, Real Time with Bill Maher, back in the first quarter of ’17). Fred, it seems, was arrested in the late 1920s out in Queens at a KKK march. (It was out in Queens because the heavily Irish NYPD advised the KKK that the march would not be welcome in Manhattan). No, Fred was never a member of the KKK. Or, not an official one. Orange Sphincter never fell off Fred’s tree, never mind fell far from it. Oh… I forgot. The Federal Election Law campaign violation. Is that going away? And the financial shenanigans regarding one of the two idiot sons’ foundations (I forgot which son) which Forbes Magazine(another liberal outlet – not) outlined a year or so ago, which pretty clearly presented a case of fraud once Dad got involved when he revamped the Board of Directors and the foundation’s expenses. Better living with and through lawyers. Your man will be busy come January 2021 with the AUSA from the SDNY, the NY County DA and the NYS Attorney General. This much I know. I know I’ll be getting up on Election Day 2020 and if I have to crawl to my polling establishment to cast my vote, I will do so. No thanks to another fraudster, Mr. DeJoy. Oh, by the way, I bought a soft cover real version of your book … finally…no virtual bullshit for me. Not bad. Let you know when I finish it. Keep up the good work. And, I still like you.
Harry, thanks for your comments, as always.
As far as the president being a racist, his friend, Hershel Walker, says he has known him for 37 yers and that he is not a racist. If you watched the Republican convention, plenty of blacks appeared on national television to say good things about him. Isn’t there a picture of him with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton from 20-30 years ago when he received an award from the NAACP? I just saw on Twitter a black woman pointing out that no one ever accused him of being a racist until he ran for president.
I’m not into predictions but in January 2021 I think the president will be working on new trade deals, trying to keep a lid on North Korea, haranguing the Chinese, trying to help American businesses and tweeting stuff that will drive the mainstream media crazy!
Thanks for buying the book and I still like you.
Thanks for the fast reply. Walker? Good try. Walker is like those very few Jews in the concentration camps who thought they might make it & assisted the SS goons. They were called Kapos. They wore a Keystone cop type hat with a big yellow star. Assisted the herding of the many that went into the ovens. As the camps got liberated, not a single Kapo survived. Bet you can’t guess who knocked them off, and it wasn’t the US Army. And the fact that his daughter is married to one of the bigger dummies of my tribe pulls no weight with me. Referring back 20 or 30 years ago, guess you forgot that about 20 years ago he supported Hillary (your gal) for Senate. As to black Americans, who could forget his comment when touring one of the few casinos he had that he would never have “them” (blacks) count his money, only “my” people. Hey, and Obama wasn’t really born here. And what about his grades? Did he really go to Harvard. Hey, who could forget the Central Park jogger back in ’89? Remember the 5 black kids that robbed the unconscious woman but didn’t rape her? Remember when Orange Sphincter took out a whole NY Times ad (fake news) adjacent to the Op Ed page, calling for summary execution the 5 kids? And even after DNA evidence emerged in the early ’90s prompting their release, Orange Sphincter never conceded anything? Oh, yes, he complained that NYC was paying too much in settlement money to the 5 kids that were incarcerated for years. What a humanitarian. Policies? Luckily, technology was, is, and will remain ahead of Orange Sphincter. Imagine the Big 3 (2 American & 1 Italian) agreeing with the State of CA with regard to CAFE for land vehicles as Orange Sphincter tries to roll back to coal and wood. Cars are my passion, so, no accident that even GM will have more than 20 vehicles in this decade that will not be fossil fuel powered. Non-fossil is currently cheaper (I have some solar panels on my roof – – not because I’m some tree-hugger, but because Con Ed, my supplier, has been a known commercial criminal for years – – so, solar lowers my cost & helps the environment). But – – Orange Sphincter got his wish. We’re Fortress America. We can’t go to Canada, we can’t go to Mexico, and we can’t go to Europe. He should have spent some quality time in one of the many refrigerated tractor trailer trucks containing all those lost souls to COVID in NYC. Congrats. Keep up the great work.

TODAY’S Headlines in the REAL WORLD:
– Trump brokers Serbia/Kosovo peace deal
– 1.4mil new jobs added in August
– Unemployment drops almost 2%
– Trump approval up to 52%
MSM response: “Let’s invent idiotic Trump hates wounded soldiers story”
Enough said
So Pete, two questions for you.
1. On a purely philosophic level. What are the principles of the Republican Party and how does Trump represent those principles?
2. The Lincoln Project is a group of traditional republicans actively seeking to unseat Trump. It has the support of the likes of Colin Powell and James Mattis. Also, no ex-President has endorsed Trump. Both of these unheard of in American political history. They are concerned about the future of the Republican Party and the future of our democracy. Do they reflect those aforementioned principles or does Donald Trump and do they effect your thinking at all?
I’m not taking a quiz. Suffice it to say that whatever shortcomings the president has I am supporting him because I seriously doubt I will ever vote for a Democrat again for president. I was a registered Democrat from college until a few months ago. I haven’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in several election cycles but, after what the Democrats tried to do to Justice Kavanaugh, I doubt I will ever support a Democratic candidate on any level going forward. Look at what the Democrats are running on-BLM, defund the police, peaceful protests and the Green New Deal. For me supporting the president is my only option (wait until you see my next post).
As for the never Trumpers, one of the things that also attracts me to President Trump is that he isn’t a politician. He stood up to the Republican hierarchy, as well as the Democratic, and won. He is unorthodox and I wish he wouldn’t tweet so much, but, hey, who amongst us is perfect?
As for the generals, I have great respect for the military; my son served in the Army. But what are they going to do in Afghanistan that they didn’t do the last 18-19 years? The president is right-Afghanistan is a shithole country. And he is putting America first and not starting new wars in the Middle East.
He’s got my vote. And I bet you a few beers that he’ll get many more than that doddering, feeble-minded candidate the Dems are leading around.
I too have great respect for the military. Trump clearly does not. You are aware that Trump has stated multiple times that anyone who would join the military is a “loser”. He is consistent in that regard. Remember what he said about John McCain? He avoids injured warriors like they would give him plague. Americans who died in war “Suckers”. Didn’t go to D-day memorial in France because his hair might get wet. Yet he wraps himself in the flag and pretend to be a patriot. Don’t take my word, look it up. He is a complete con and utter fraud, a liar, a cheat, dishonorable and a threat to our democracy with his autocratic tendencies. I’ll take “doddering” over that any day. 🍻
Oh my goodness! Impressive article dude! Thanks,
However I am having troubles with your RSS.
I don’t understand the reason why I can’t subscribe to it.
Is there anybody having similar RSS problems?
Anyone who knows the solution can you kindly respond?

I?m impressed, I should say. Truly seldom do I run into a blog site that?s both enlightening as well as entertaining, and let me inform you, you have actually struck the nail on the head. Your suggestion is superior; the issue is something that insufficient individuals are speaking intelligently about. I am very satisfied that I stumbled across this in my look for something associating with this. Sarina Ebenezer Orling
