Another Nail in the Credibility Coffin of the Mainstream Media

Did you hear that the Biden administration requested that 56 of the 58 remaining Trump-appointed U. S. Attorneys submit their resignations? Maybe not, what with the impeachment trial, Dr. Fauci moving the Wuhan virus goalposts, teacher unions across the country objecting to having their members report to work, etc. After all, new administrations typically replace the U.S. Attorneys appointed by the prior administration when they take office. The job is acknowledged by all, including the prosecutors themselves, as a political one.

So, it’s a routine and expected act by an incoming administration.

Unless it’s done by President Trump.

Here’s the New York Times reporting the Biden administration’s action early this week: “Justice Depart. Directs Trump-Appointed U.S. Attorneys to Leave,” with the move described as “routine.”

Here’s the NYT article when President Trump did the same thing in March 2017: “Trump Abruptly Orders 46 Obama-Era Prosecutors to Resign.” This would, in effect, “sweep away most of the remaining vestiges of Obama administration prosecutors.”

Do you see a difference in these two CNN headlines: “DOJ to ask Trump-appointed US attorneys to resign” and “Anger mounts over handling of US attorney firings.”

MSNBC’s headline in 2017 read “Trump sparks new controversy with US Attorney dismissals.” As what now appears to be a precursor of what was to come, the MSNBC reporter speculated whether the firing of Preet Bharara, the noted New York federal prosecutor, was done at the behest of Vladimir Putin.

Compare and contrast to this tweet a few days ago from an MSNBC senior producer.

One of the greatest accomplishments of President Trump was how he exposed the mainstream media (or, rather, triggered the media to expose themselves) as biased, untrustworthy and incapable of objectivity. The Russian collusion hoax, the lead up to Ukrainian phone call impeachment, Stormy Daniels, the Russian golden shower non-incident, the never-ending articles criticizing Trump and his administration, always citing unnamed sources, showed that the press was out to get the president any way they could. That, even out of office, he continues to live rent-free in in their heads shows their past obsession with getting him out of office-and their new one of keeping him out of office in 2024.

  1. Dunno what happened to my earlier reply but here’s a follow up.
The great accomplishment you tout was creating an alternate reality or as Kelly Ann Conway put it, alternative facts. It has been a serious disservice to political discourse. Endless tweets, distractions, distortions, dissemblance. You demonstrate same by your oft repeated talking points.
Russian hoax – read the Meuller report then we’ll talk about it.
Stormy Daniels – she’s real. She was paid off.
Ukranian phone call – see Mueller.
Golden showers – a rumor but irrelevant.
Always citing unnamed sources – really?
I read. I read a lot. I read a variety of news sources. By and large the articles I have read are well researched, documented and contain quotes where appropriate.
As to Trump living in anyone’s head, certainly not mine. I have truly enjoyed the last 4 weeks or so of no “governing by tweet”, no “fake news” and the return of daily White House pressers where they run a legitimate question and answer session. No Ivanka, no Jared, no Kelly Ann. It’s a joy and a relief. And, in the bigger picture, our allies agree. Read the foreign press. With the challenges ahead we need international allies more than ever.

  2. When my wife read the article regarding a change in US Attorneys she thought this was bizarre. I explained that occurs with each election by a President of another political party. I also do not miss the tweets and agree our allies most likely appreciate saving money by not having to honor their prior financial commitments to NATO. They get to return to a policy of delayed and/or reduced payments without a bias media focus. It can be awkward to consistently have to concede to a strong negotiator (President Trump) who represented the United States. That said, I do not have confidence in a Joe Biden administration and believe this will provide more anarchy.
